Graduate Admissions into Modular/Sandwich Programmes for the 2012/2013 Academic Year

It is announced for the information of prospective applicants and the general public that the School of Graduate Studies is offering the following sandwich/modular programmes, leading to the award of Master of Arts and Master of Science Degrees.The progammes will be run on the main University of Ghana Campus, Legon, during the long vacation, normally referred to as the Third Semester - from June to August 2013. Each cohort of admitted students on these programmes will therefore study over two long vacation periods to obtain the equivalence of one academic year or (two semesters).

GENERAL ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL PROGRAMMES
A good first degree (at least a second class lower division) in a relevant field of study at the University of Ghana or any other reputable University. For purposes of assessing an applicant’s eligibility, he/she may be required to take an entrance examination and/or interview at the Department/School/Institute/Centre.

Programme specific Entry requirements

1. MA Adult Education
   Applicants for this programme will be required to pass an entrance examination and an interview.
   
2. MA Teaching of English as a Second Language (TESL)
   Applicants for this programme must be people who are teaching English at the basic, secondary and tertiary levels.
   
3. MA Public Affairs
   A minimum of three years working experience in the private or public sector is required from prospective applicants. Applicants must also pass an entrance examination and interview.
4. MSc Mineral Exploration and MSc Groundwater Resource Development
   These progarmmes aim at encouraging first degree (at least second class lower division) holders in Science/Engineering, who are working in these fields but have not received formal education in the areas, to acquire both theoretical and practical training.

TUITION

The tuition fee for Ghanaians	- GH¢ 2,464.00 per semester (long vacation)
The tuition fee for non-Ghanaians	- US$ 3,460.00 per semester (long vacation)

  
ENTRANCE EXAMINATIONS
The date for the various entrance examinations is indicated below:
MA Adult Education - Saturday, March 16, 2013 (K.A Busia Lecture Theatre)
MA Public Affairs - Saturday, March 16, 2013 (K.A Busia Lecture Theatre)

The examinations will start at 9.00am prompt.

These entrance exams apply only to applicants who will be in the country at the time of the exams.


HOW TO APPLY
University of Ghana application e-vouchers can be obtained by  – Ghanaians - US$ 3,460.00 per semester (long vacation) for GH¢ 95.00 at the following banks: the Ecobank and the HFC Banks. The e-vouchers will be available at all the branches of these two banks. Applicants should follow carefully, the instructions given to enable them complete the online application form.

Applicants must in addition submit the following documents to the Executive
Secretary of the School of Graduate Studies, University of Ghana, Legon.

1. 2 copies of Certificate authenticated by institution awarding degree
2. 2 copies of original Transcript
3. 3 Referee Reports
4. “Proof of submission of application” form.

N/B Kindly write your serial number as it appears on the e-voucher on all the above documents before submitting them. The name of the programme being applied for and your telephone number should also be indicated on all the documents.

INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS AND GHANAIANS APPLYING FROM ABROAD

This category of applicants should visit the School of Graduate Studies, University of Ghana website at “http//:sgs.ug.edu.gh’’ to download the Graduate application form. After completion, the form should be sent to the address below with a non-refundable application fee of US$ 95.00 in Travelers’ cheque or International money order. Applicants can also pay directly or wire transfer into the UNIVERSITY OF GHANA ECOBANK ACCOUNT.
